Monte Generoso is one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in Ticino .

The panorama extends from the Po Valley to Lake Como and the Bernese and Valais Alps . At the top, on a rocky plateau, the “Fiore di pietra” majestically stands out , a new work by the famous architect Mario Botta.

For 125 years, the rack railway has departed from Capolago on Lake Lugano to reach the summit at 1704 m, travelling for 9 km along the picturesque mountain setting of the Monte Generoso natural park.

The Ideal program

Morning:
– Coffee in Piazza Riforma
– Boat trip to Lugano Capolago
– Train to the top of Monte Generoso
– Free time and lunch at the restaurant on top of the mountain

Afternoon:
– Visit to the bear cave (June – September) with a 30-minute walk from the “Fiore di Pietra” structure
– Visit to the observatory on Sunday (June – September)
– Return by train to Capolago
– Return by train or boat Capolago – Lugano
